How many students are there in Rainbow school? The table given below provides information about the number of students in classes I to V in Rainbow school. Find out how many students are there in each class.

Class I Class II Class III Class IV Class V Total
Boys 13 14 12 16 15 70
Girls 14 12 16 14 12 68
Total

Rani saw the table and said that in class I there are -

In class I, 13 boys and 14 girls.
I can break 13 into 10 + 3 and 14 into 10 + 4
Then it is easy.I add 10 + 10 and 3 + 4
So 13 + 14
= 10 + 3 + 10 + 4
= 20 + 3 + 4
= 20 + 7
= 27
See if you can do the same for class II, III, IV and V students.
Class II `rarr` 14 + 12
= 10 + 4 + 10 + 2
= 20 + 4 + 2
= 20 + 6
= 26
Class III `rarr` 12 + 16
= 10 + 2 + 10 + 6
= 20 + 2 + 6
= 20 + 8
= 28
Class IV `rarr` 16 + 14
= 10 + 6 + 10 + 4
= 20 + 6 + 4
= 20 + 10
= 30
Class V `rarr` 15 + 12
= 10 + 5 + 10 + 2
= 20 + 5 + 2
= 20 + 8
= 28
Total number of students in Rainbow school are 138.

Examples

  2. 65 + 47 = 112
  3. 86 + 75 = 161
  4. 65 + 74 = 139
  5. 74 + 46 = 120
  6. 73 + 62 = 135
  7. 26 + 64 = 90
Adding 3 Numbers

How many chocolates do you need?
It was decided to distribute a chocolate to each person on Independence Day in play school. There were 267 students and 12 teachers. Two girls Latha and Neha calculated the number of chocolates required for distribution, as given below-
Latha has
     2 6 7
 + 1 2
   -----------
    3 8 7
   -----------
Neha has
     2 6 7
    + 1 2
    -----------
     2 7 9
    -----------
Who added correctly? Why?

   Neha added correctly.
 2 hundreds + 6 tens + 7 ones
              1 tens + 2 Ones
------------------------------
 2 hundreds + 7 tens + 9 ones
